Jeannette Sloan Luke

July 31, 1936 — May 29, 2022

Jeannette Sloan Luke, 85, passed away on Sunday, May 29,2022, at home on her farm surrounded by her loved ones. She was 85 years old.  She was born on July 31, 1936, in Moultrie, Georgia to her parents Wright and Ruth Sloan. Jeannette was one of six children.  In 1954, she graduated from Moultrie Senior High School, and on July 30, 1955, she married Ray Luke, the love of her life.  In 1963, Ray and Jeannette built a home on their new farm nestled right between Ochlocknee and Coolidge in Thomas County.  Together they raised and adored three children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jeannette had many loves- fishing, gardening, crafting, making wreaths and arrangements, decorating, looking for redbirds, watching baseball games and telling a good joke.  But, her main love was her family.  She and Ray were married for almost 51 years.  It was a marriage where love was shown daily, grace was given freely and God was kept at the center of their foundation. Some of her best days were spent laughing with and cooking for her family.  If you were to ask her children and grandbabies, they’d say her apple dumplings, cubed steak, creamed corn and cornbread dressing were the best in the world.  There was simply no better Mama and Nana in the world.  Jeannette had four sisters and one brother.  She spent time fishing and talking about fishing with her brother Grady.  Doris, Bobbie, Gwen and Patricia, affectionately known as “The Sisters,” were her best friends.  Anyone who knew Jeannette knew just how much she loved them.  Together they have decorated many rooms, made countless arrangements, and bought out all the craft stores and flower nurseries.

Jeannette (known affectionately to most as Net and Nana) is survived by her sons Ricky Luke and Kim Luke, daughter Donna Kaye Luke Newberry (Greg), granddaughters Delisa Luke Barrow (Jay) and Lindsey Luke Coffee (Jesse), grandson Ethan Ray Luke, great-granddaughters Emma Ray Barrow (Delisa and Jay), Ella Raye Coffee and Sadie Nan Coffee (Lindsey and Jesse) all of Ochlocknee, sisters Dorothy Sloan Hunter of Pavo and Patricia Sloan Wyatt of Moultrie, brother-in-law Selby Day of Lawrenceville and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.  She was preceded in death by her parents Wright and Ruth Sloan, husband Ottis Ray Luke, grandson Devyn Ray Newberry (Donna and Greg), Brother Grady Sloan, sisters Bobbie Sloan Carter and Gwen Sloan Day, brothers-in-law Guy Carter, Lawrence Hunter and Jimmy Wyatt and sister-in-law Gail Sloan.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Murphy, Dr. Santos, Dr. Crenshaw, Dr. Hicks, Dr. Griffin, Dr. Choksi and Camelia Gardens of Life Care for the exceptional care given to our sweet Nana.  We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to several of Nana’s caregivers that went above and beyond and in the end became family.  They are Norma Smith, Alice Marria and Nisha Williams.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Randy Jackson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Luke Family Cemetery.
