Thomas Sidney Maples, 87, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, craftsmanship, and quiet strength.

Born on August 25, 1938, in Mitchell County, Georgia, Thomas was the son of Albert and Kate Maples. He grew up alongside his brothers, Hewlett Hall Maples and Kenneth Alfa Maples, in a close-knit family that shaped his lifelong values of hard work, humility, and faith.

Thomas built a distinguished career as a Medical Equipment Technician, a profession that took him across the country and around the world. His work—installing and repairing vital medical equipment in hospitals and universities—played an important role in supporting patient care and advancing healthcare. Known for his keen intellect and problem-solving ability, he earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike.

While his career took him far from home, Thomas found his greatest joy in simple, meaningful pursuits. A master woodworker, he crafted countless pieces that reflected both his skill and patience. He embraced the peaceful rhythm of rural life, spending time riding his lawnmower, tending to chickens and goats, and working contentedly in his shop. He was happiest when he was creating, fixing, or simply caring for the land he loved.

Above all, Thomas was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared 67 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Lou Ella, building a life grounded in love, faith, and steadfast commitment. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home, eventually settling in Colonial Beach, Virginia.

Thomas will be remembered as a kind, humble, and dependable man—someone his family and friends could always turn to for guidance, support, or a helping hand. His quiet wisdom and generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife, Lou Ella; his children, Carol Michele, Daniel Roger, and Kevin Lee; his grandsons, Tony and Tyler; his great-grandchildren, Landon, Kaitlyn, and Sydney; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Cool Springs Church in Norman Park, Georgia, where he will be laid to rest among family.
