Shirley Maxwell Thomas, 84, of Moultrie, Georgia, passed away April 10, 2023. She was born January 12, 1939, in Moultrie, Georgia to the late William Glen and Dorothy Wilder Maxwell.

Shirley was a talented and creative person who loved people of all backgrounds and cultures. She was a roofer, a novice home builder, a hair salon owner, a school bus driver, a race car driver, and a very talented crafter. She was an amazing self-taught artisan, and many are blessed to have one of her whimsical creations. She truly embodied her own motto: "Can't never could and won't never would." She lived a full and interesting life and shared her joy in Jesus Christ, the way to the Father. She lived a blessed life and shared with many from her bounty.

Shirley is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Garrison Thomas, her son, Joe Glen Sumner, her parents, William Glen Maxwell and Dorothy Wilder Maxwell, her brother, Billy William Maxwell, her sister, Julia Nell Ferguson, brother-in-law, Buster Ferguson, niece, Camille Ferguson, and nephew, Kyle Ferguson.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Lucinda Carter (Ron) and Sabrina Shiver (Steve), four grandchildren, Brian Carter (Amy), Rhonda Carter, Blake Shiver (Lindsey), and Elise Dennison (Chris), eight great grandchildren, Emma Carter, Garrison Carter, Dylan Childs, Adele Childs, Harrison Shiver, Juliana Shiver, Clara Dennison, and Archer Dennison, three sisters, Sandra Camp (Joe), Mary Godley (Roy), and Jan Suter (Walter),and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Shirley will be interred at Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens in the Valor section alongside her beloved husband, John Garrison Thomas.
