Ruby Mitchell Bowermeister

March 21, 1924 — August 17, 2021

Ruby Mitchell Bowermeister, 97, of Moultrie, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 22, 2021, at Trinity Baptist Church with Reverend John Grobe, Reverend George Houed officiating and being assisted by family members.  A private family interment will be in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Trinity Baptist Church on Sunday.

Casketbearers will include Jason Bowermeister, John Hancock, Kevin Hilt, Mike Manning, Henry McDonald, Tommy Van der Walt, and James Zelasko.  Members of the Magnolia Garden Club will serve as honorary casketbearers.

Born March 21, 1924, in rural Turner County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late John Whipple Mitchell and Lizzie Hobby Mitchell.  Mrs. Ruby was a beautiful lady with a loving spirit who impacted the lives of many throughout her fulfilled, blessed life.  Twenty-one years of her life were dedicated to the students of Central/Stringfellow School before she retired from the Colquitt County School System.  For 57 years she was a loving military and farmer’s wife.  She was a true soldier of Christ, having joined Trinity Baptist Church in 1959, where she served as a choir member and Sunday School teacher.  She was also a member, president and chaplain of the Magnolia Garden Club and volunteer at the Colquitt County Museum. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Ira Bowermeister; brothers and sisters, Vera Lucille, Florene, Jeffie Mae, J.W., Donald, Ray, and Roger.

Survivors include her daughter, Gloria “Gidge” Taylor and husband Warren of Moultrie, GA; sons, Bobby Bowermeister, Jr. and wife Jeanie of Loganville, GA, Tommy Bowermeister and wife Dana of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Brannen Taylor and wife Lara, Jeff Taylor and Marilyn Hale, Becki Van der Walt and husband Tommy, Kelli Manning and husband Mike, Meredith Causey and husband Mike, Anne Nimblett and husband Dan, James Zelasko and wife Frances, Jason Bowermeister and wife Jamie, Morgan Hilt and husband Kevin; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Frances Dooly and sister-in-law, Clarice Mitchell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Foundation of South GA, PO Box 2654, Thomasville, GA. 31799 for the Moultrie-Colquitt County Alumni Scholarship Fund.
