Rev. John Roger "Papa John" Newsome, Jr.

Rev. John Roger “Papa John” Newsome, Jr., 81, of Moultrie died Monday, October 5, 2020 at Pruitt Health-Magnolia Manor.

          Funeral service will be held 2:00PM Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Cobb Funeral Chapel.  Interment will be in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Cobb Funeral Chapel.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are recommended. 

          Born October 11, 1938 in Homer, LA, he was the son of the late John Roger Newsome, Sr. and Blanche Kemp Newsome.  Rev. Newsome was the former pastor at Beulah Baptist Church in Nankin, GA where he loved telling people about the Lord during his ministry.    He loved his family, enjoyed going to the Huddle House to see people and visiting with them, and he never encountered a stranger.  Rev. Newsome enjoyed watching military history and tugboats.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #381 for 50 years and was also a member of the Shriners. 

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Lee Newsome; grandson, Charles Rice Harden III.

          Survivors include his children, Neal Newsome and wife Angie of Moultrie, John Roger Newsome, III of Tallahassee, Nancy Newsome Morris and husband Jason of Hartsfield; grandchildren, Trey Newsome and wife Shayna, Cameron Newsome, Loughlin Shaul and husband Levi, Aidan Newsome, Daly Newsome, Moira Newsome, Elspeth Newsome, Finn Newsome, Jolie Harden, Lanie McCoy, Bendie McCoy, Kolby Morris, Logan Morris, Ansleigh Morris; great-grandchildren, Adelie Newsome, Lincoln Shaul; sister, Blanche Land and husband Ron of Jacksonville, FL.; and his loyal canine companion, Sam.
