Rachel Monk Smithwick Davis, 92, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away at her residence on Sunday, June 19, 2022.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with Reverend Stanley Norman officiating. A private interment will follow in Murphy Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00-1:45 PM in the chapel.
Born January 18, 1930, in Moultrie, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah Bryant Monk and Balma Stephenson Monk. Mrs. Davis enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, solving cryptograms, and shopping. She was a devoted Christian who lived out her faith daily by willingly helping others. In her career she served as a nurse and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her children Joey Smithwick and wife Sheila of Moultrie, Lawana Jackson and husband Steve of Lake Park, Georgia, Melanie Czajkowski and husband Joe of Valdosta, and Beth Smithwick of Valdosta; grandchildren, Bryan Smithwick, Andrea Griner, Kimberly Zimmerman, Aubrey Barron, Tara McKinney; seven great-grandchildren, Cole Griner, Asher Griner, Madison Griner, Olivia McKinney, James Bynum, Kyler Zimmerman, and Claire Zimmerman; sister, Rosalind Lastinger and husband Truman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Lester J. Smithwick and Roger Fulton Davis; granddaughter, Olivia Smithwick; siblings, J. B. Monk, Ivan Monk, Marion Monk, Remer Monk, Elizabeth Fort, David Monk, Kenneth Monk, Rufus Monk, Lavar Monk, Stanley Monk, and Infant Monk.
