Ophelia High Allen

FUNSTON, GA – Ophelia High Allen, 89, long time resident of Funston, GA, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Funston Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Shiver and Mr. Stacey Beacham officiating.  The family will greet friends at the church from 1:30-2:45 prior to the service.

Born December 16, 1934, in Madison, FL, she was the daughter of the late Russell J. High and Elizabeth Rebecca Horne High.  Mrs. Ophelia was well known throughout the community as the owner and operator of Allen’s Grocery in Funston.  In addition, she selflessly served as a Bluebird volunteer for many years at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.  Her bright smile and cheerful spirit will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.  She was an active member of Funston Baptist Church. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry LaFayette Allen; her grandparents, the late Oscar and Ethel Horne, who raised her when her mother died shortly after her birth; and her precious grandson, Casey Lynn Allen.

Survivors include her sons, Harry Kimberly “Kim” Allen, Sr. and significant other Sherri of Moultrie, Marty Christopher Allen and wife Heather of Cordele, GA; daughter, Harriet Elizabeth Jones and husband Lanny of Moultrie; grandchildren, Tonya and Shane, Crystal and Brandon, Rebecca and Scott, Kim, Jr. and Amanda, Ben and special friend Amber, Kristina and Russell, Samantha and Jared; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, London, Landis, Devin and Amber, MiKayla, Carmen, Caselynn, Wesley, Ava, Rowan, Kylie, Jovi; great-great grandchild, Crew; step-great grandchildren, Brian, Austin, Joshua, Carson; and sister, Betty Jean Williams of Tallahassee.
