Obituary

Moultrie, Georgia – Norman W. McGee, Sr., 86, of Moultrie, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, May 16, 2026, at New Elm Baptist Church, with Pastor Dalton Moore officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 11:45 AM, Saturday, May 16, 2026, at New Elm Baptist Church.

Born August 17, 1939, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Richard W. McGee and the late Gladys Gertrude Johnson McGee Bohannon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Briggs McGee; brothers, Larry W. McGee and Richard W. “Bubba” McGee; and sisters-in-law, Lisa McGee and Joan McGee.

Survivors include his children, Richard Wayne McGee, Norman W. McGee, Jr. and wife, Kathye, Shiela Montgomery and companion, Larry Green, Tricia Hawkins and husband, Kyle; grandchildren, Jennifer Montgomery, Jacquelyn Hawkins and husband, Tyler Gruber, John Hawkins; brother, James William “Billy” McGee; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends. His fur-baby, Minnie, also survives him.

A 1957 graduate of Colquitt County High School, he served in the National Guard, US Army Reserves and was a member of New Elm Baptist Church, where he enjoyed a part of the Jolly Elders. A talented woodworker, he was a cabinet maker and shop foreman at D & D Kitchen Center in Albany, Georgia for many years. Throughout the years, he, along with his wife, enjoyed being vendors at arts and crafts festivals in both Georgia and Florida. Throughout the years, he enjoyed bowling, and along with his wife, were members of several bowling leagues.

He was a dedicated family man, enjoyed fishing, swimming and traveling with family to Holiday Beach and Reed Bingham. He was a Mason and had recently received his 50-year pin, as well as a lambskin apron for attaining the status of Master Mason. He was dedicated to the Shriners Children’s Hospitals and the Knights Templar Eye Foundation. He loved to help others and was a regular blood donor. Also, during the 1970s, he served as a Troop Leader with the Boy Scouts.

Cobb Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
