Nelle Johnson Scarbrough

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Nelle Johnson Scarbrough, 92, of Lawrenceville, formerly of Moultrie, Georgia, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Northside Hospital.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Westview Cemetery with Mr. Jeffrey Wilson officiating.

Born November 6, 1933, in Moultrie, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie C. Johnson and Myrl Roberts Johnson; and stepmother, Mima B. Johnson. Mrs. Nelle dedicated 31 years of her life to education as a teacher, where she found great joy in teaching, encouraging, and spending time with children. Her love for education and the many young lives she influenced remained an important part of who she was. Outside the classroom, Mrs. Nelle enjoyed playing golf and tennis, traveling, and spending time with friends. She was also a proud member of Berkley Country Club for many years. Mrs. Nelle will be remembered for her dedication to teaching, and the many memories she made with those around her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Blanton Scarbrough, Jr.; brother, Donald C. Johnson; sisters, Alma Johnson Carroll, Helen Johnson Baker, Dorothy Johnson Morgan.

Survivors include her sister, Lusshian Johnson Weeks; niece, nephew and caregivers, Susan B. Wilson and Thomas R. Wilson; several other nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and friends.
