Mary Louise Cox McMurphy, 97, of Moultrie passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at her residence.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. The service will conclude in the chapel with private interment in Hopewell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 at the chapel.
Casketbearers will include Tony Reynolds, J. R. Stripling, John Kastelic, Chris McMurphy, Cody Brooks, Michael Wayne Gibson, Leonard Craig McMurphy, and James McMurphy.
Born March 24, 1924, in Grady County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Cox and Effie Murphy. She was a seamstress, having retired from Riverside Manufacturing. She was a member of Ione Freewill Baptist. Her hobbies included spending time with her precious family, playing cards, visiting yard sales, shopping at the Hope House store, playing Bingo, and listening to gospel music.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James William McMurphy; daughters, Diane Brooks and Effie Irene Gibson; sons, Garry McMurphy and Larry McMurphy; brothers, Albert Buford and Ben J. Buford; and sister, Jeraldean Kilgore.
Survivors include her children, Betty Pope and husband B. B., Carolyn Gibson and husband Jack, Wilma Williams, Ronnie McMurphy and wife Kathy, Bobby Jean McCook, Virginia Meads and husband Joey, Harold McMurphy and wife Debbie, Michael McMurphy, Craig McMurphy and wife Dana, all of Moultrie; 25 grandchildren; several great, great-great, and great-great-great grandchildren; brother, Clayton Murphy and wife Johvonna of Moultrie; sister, Lucille Kilgore of Dunlap, TN; and special friend, Clyde Welch of Moultrie.
The family will gathering at the home of Mrs. Louise McMurphy.
