Mary Laverne Mathews, born on July 23, 1943, in Moultrie Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, also in Moultrie. Mary, affectionately known for her talents as a seamstress and her dedication as a homemaker, provided warmth and love to all who knew her.
Throughout her career, Mary showcased her remarkable skills as a seamstress for multiple companies, leaving a lasting impression with her craftsmanship. When not working, she devoted herself to her family and home, where her nurturing spirit flourished.
Mary had a diverse range of interests and hobbies. She cherished her moments spent reading, and her culinary skills delighted family and friends alike. In her earlier years, she enjoyed fishing and hunting, activities that connected her with nature and created cherished memories. Above all, Mary was a loving mother and wife, whose life was built on devotion and care for her family.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Wesley Mathews, and their children, Todd Mathews and his wife Judy, and Teresa Bishop and her husband Thomas. Mary also leaves behind grandchildren Alisa Harper and her husband Garrett, Sha-lee Vinson, Candace Underwood and her husband Ryan, Morgan Fronczke and her husband Kirk, Whyatt Davis and his wife Caitlin, Weston Davis and his wife Britney, and Caleb Mathews and his wife Jacklynn, as well as fifteen treasured great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Lorena Matthews and her husband Leroy, and Lois West Morgan and her husband Carl, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her influence in their lives.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Vacil Levon West, her mother, Effie Estelle (Shurley) West, her brother, Stephen Levon West, and her grandson, Wesley Leo Vinson.
A gathering will take place on October 13, 2024, starting at 12:00 PM at her residence located at 1118 Smithwick Bridge Rd, Coolidge, GA. Friends and family are welcome to gather in remembrance of a remarkable woman who touched countless hearts with her kindness and love.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
