Obituary

Moultrie, Georgia – Marilyn Wisham Hay, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and friend, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in Moultrie, Georgia.

Funeral services are 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Cobb Funeral Chapel, with the Reverend Terry Siniard and Reverend Joseph Holland officiating. Interment is at Oakfield Baptist Church Cemetery in Oakfield, Georgia.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 PM, Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Born on August 28, 1940, in Tift County, Georgia, Marilyn was the daughter of Margaret Cosper Wisham Lindsay and Horace Wisham. She grew up in Tifton, Georgia, surrounded by the love of her family and attended school there before building a life defined by warmth, generosity and unwavering devotion to those she loved.

Marilyn married Francis Marion Hay, and together they had one son, Francis Marion Hay, Jr., known lovingly as Buddy. She was a devoted wife and mother who adored her family and always did her best for those she loved. A true Southern lady, Marilyn created a beautiful, loving home where everyone felt welcome. For twenty years, her mother-in-law, Roberta Hay, lived with the family, and Marilyn lovingly cared for her with the same grace and selflessness that defined her character.

In her professional life, Marilyn worked as a secretary for various organizations, including AT&T and the YMCA, where she was known for her dedication and dependability. She was also an avid reader with a particular love for novels set in Savannah. She cherished fond memories of many trips to Savannah and St. Simons Island, and she would light up talking about the vacations her family enjoyed in that area.

Marilyn was a generous soul, always giving of herself, whether through her time, her love, or her kindness. No matter how much time passed between visits, she remained unchanged in her warmth and generosity. Seeing her was always a blessing. Though she was an introvert by nature, her quiet sense of humor would slip out at just the right moment and fill the room with laughter. Her presence was a reminder of the love and light she shared with everyone around her.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Marion Hay; her son, Francis Marion “Buddy” Hay, Jr; her parents; and her sister, Barbara Ann Hardin. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Gwen Hay, and multiple nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished their Aunt Marilyn.

Marilyn's greatest love was her faith in God. She often said that Jesus was her best friend. She began and ended each day with a blessing and a prayer, and her strong faith was the foundation of her life. She served as a Sunday School teacher and was deeply committed to her church, embodying the qualities of a devoted Christian woman in everything she did.

Arrangements are entrusted to Cobb Funeral Home.

Marilyn will be dearly missed. Heaven has welcomed a beautiful soul, and we take comfort in knowing that she is now in the presence of the Lord. Marilyn, your beautiful smile will be missed but never forgotten. We love you.
