Lester Earl Whitaker

NORMAN PARK, GA – Lester Earl Whitaker, 82, of Norman Park, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 21, 2024, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Julian Griner officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 1:00-1:45 PM Friday at Cobb Funeral Chapel. 

Casketbearers will be Shane Slater, Michael Whitaker, Jeff Whitaker, Heylie Heck, Jamie Clayton, David Hoover, and Colt Whitaker. 

Born February 5, 1942, in Miller County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Wyatt Irvin Whitaker and Chloe Bell Dean Whitaker. Mr. Lester retired from Hubbell Die Casting as a machinist and was a member of Lifespring Community Church. He was a wonderful, humble man who loved his family dearly and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and watching sports. Mr. Lester had a kind-loving heart who would always help others whenever they needed it and even the animals. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Irving Whitaker, Lynwood Whitaker, Melvin Whitaker, Elisha Whitaker, Nina Pickren, Mildred Gordon, and Delma Hoover. 

Survivors include his beloved wife, Rebecca Carol Welch Whitaker of Norman Park; children, Scott Ward and fiancée Katie Tucker of Port Arthur, TX, Randy Ward and fiancée Rebecca Strange of Moultrie, Dean Whitaker and wife Sharon of Riverton, WY, Heylie Heck and husband Shane of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Macy Hancock and husband McCoy, Jackson Ward, Caleb Strange, Declan Whitaker, Alanna Whitaker, Eisley Whitaker, and Briella Whitaker; brother, Bill Whitaker and wife Debbie; several nieces, nephews, and extended other family members and friends.
