Obituary

Leesburg, Georgia – Lanny Dale Sears, of Moultrie, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Willson Hospice House, in Albany, Georgia.

A service to honor and celebrate his life is 3:00 PM, Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Cobb Funeral Chapel, with the Reverend Mack Wilcox officiating. Private family inurnment will be at Westview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 PM, Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Born December 7, 1950, in Joplin, Missouri, he was a son of the late Daniel Henry Sears and the late Patsy Joyce Mast Sears.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Jenny Frances Forrest Sears; brother, Larry Daniel Sears; grandparents, Miles Joshua “John” Sears, Nora Mae Bailey Sears, William Mast and Mabel Mast.

Survivors include his daughter, Landy Sears Root; stepsons, Forrest Ranew and P.J. Ranew and wife, Karen; grandchildren, Madison Root, Lily Ranew, Jakob Ranew, Meghan Pedigo, Mason Amstutz, Jessica Payton and Landon Vollmer; brother, Dennis Sears and wife, Lindsey; sister-in-law, Lori Sears; close family friend, Julie Willis and her family. He is also survived by his beloved canine companion, Bandit; as well as several nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.

A caring and dedicated registered nurse for over thirty years, he worked for the Moultrie Fire Department and Dougherty County EMS. He enjoyed fishing and studying history and politics.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to: the Darton Health Professions Foundation in honor of Lanny D. Sears.
