Kathy Wood Richter

Moultrie, Georgia – Kathy Wood Richter, 73, of Moultrie, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Graveside Memorial Rites will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Shane Smith officiating.

Born in North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Richard Wood, Sr. and the late Doris Wood Cheek.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, LeRoy LaGrant Richter; sister-in laws, Peggy Byrd and Elaine Bruce; brother-in-law, Jerry Bruce; niece, Amy Wood and nephew, Kevin Byrd.

Kathy’s co-workers became friends and then chosen family everywhere she worked, at the Clerk of Court, Knight’s Electric, the Colquitt County Detention Center, or Smith and Richter, once you were “family” there was no turning back. She enjoyed day trips antiquing, weekend getaways to the beach, and shopping excursions (“out piddlin’”) with her friends. For many years traveling, glamping, and playing cards with family and friends was a monthly past-time. Dominoes anyone? In her youth you’d find her at her sewing machine making clothes, to include her prom and wedding dresses. She didn’t just enjoy reading, she was obsessed with the written word, and you never saw her without a book in her hand or very close by. In her later years, she rarely missed a NASCAR race or an Atlanta Braves game. If her family or friends were in need of help, she was there. It didn’t matter if it was her time, her love, or something tangible, she was willing to give of herself without question.

Survivors include her daughter, Paige and husband, Roy; grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle and Kayla; brothers, Ricky and wife, Faye, Gary and wife, Kelly and Mark and wife, Marcella; sister, Betty and husband, Stan; sister-in-law Nan and husband Jerry, brother-in-laws John and wife Martha, and Larry; thirteen nieces and nephews; “adopted” grandchildren, Michael and wife, Ace,and Calie.
