Joyce Crosby

February 21, 1934 — October 4, 2022

Joyce Marie Howell Crosby, 88, of Moultrie, beloved wife, mother, maw-maw, grandma, mimi, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.  She was surrounded by her family.

A private family service was held on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Zion Grove Assembly of God Church in Meigs, Georgia.

Joyce was born February 21, 1934, to the parents of William I. Howell and Lela Mae Barwick Howell in Thomas County.  Her early years in Thomas and Colquitt Counites were spent in adventure, riding her much-loved pony, Toby, bareback and lightning-fast on the plantation where her father worked as overseer.  Joyce graduated from Meigs High School in 1950.  She proudly lived an independent young adulthood as a telephone operator in Moultrie, Georgia by the age of 18.  Here she met her future husband, Thomas Edward Crosby, Sr., and they were wed on November 27, 1954, at First Presbyterian Church in Moultrie.  Joyce and “Ed” raised four boys and her proudest achievement was her family.  Among her most precious possessions was her faith which may have been tested frequently by her four boys!  She loved the Lord and reading her Bible.  Praying and living her faith provided her with both strength and solace throughout her life.  It was her rock when her husband of 63 years passed away in 2018.  Maw-Maw, Mimi, or Grandma, as she was often known, was quick-witted and enjoyed funny rhymes, poems, jokes, and songs.  She thought ‘a day without laughter is a day wasted’, always ready for a new adventure, she enjoyed trips to London and Las Vegas as well as several Caribbean cruises.   Proud of her lovely features and figure, always made sure she looked her best.  She adorned Westerns, crossword puzzles, animals of all types, Dean Martin, Alan Jackson, John Wayne, shopping, and cheering for the Packers and the Atlanta Braves.  Her love of cooking and good food has been passed to three generations.  Joyce Howell Crosby will be missed beyond measure as she rests in the arms of her Lord.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Crosby, Sr.; eldest son, Steven E. Crosby; grandson, Matthew Crosby; brother, Charles Howell; dearly loved pet, Taco.

Survivors include sons, Mike Crosby and wife Linda, Keith Crosby and husband Scott, Tommy Crosby and wife Dana; grandchildren, Shannon Crosby, Jesse Crosby, Mack Crosby, Christy Crosby, Kameron Robinson, Josh Crosby and wife Lucy, Brittany Crosby Moore and husband Matt, and Leah Kornegay; great-grandchildren, Jillian Crosby, Landon Crosby, Sophie Kornegay, Caroline Kornegay, and expecting 2 more great-grandbabies; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
