John Alan Dalton, 73, of Moultrie, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026, with his brother and sister-in-law by his side. His death occurred at Pruitt Health Magnolia Manor in Moultrie, where he had resided for the past few years.

Born October 12, 1952, in Sylvester Georgia, he was a son of the late Willard Paul Dalton, Sr. and the late Mavis Holton Dalton Hanna.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Paul “Billy” Dalton.

Survivors include his younger brother, Tony Dalton (Caryn); beloved nieces and nephews, Paul S. “Packy” Dalton (Stacy), Maria Burton Filbert (Paul), Chelsey Wamack McFaddin (Nick), Emma Lita Dalton, Seth Holton Dalton; as well as other cherished, extended family members and friends, whose friendship and love were invaluable to Alan through the years. He was a member of Tyson United Methodist Church and was an alumnus of University of Georgia where he received his degree in Horticulture.

Alan, much like his Mother, found joy in the cultivation and propagation of plants. When he began losing his sight in his fifties, his passion for flora evolved into an ever-deepening appreciation of the amazing intricacies of this beautiful world God has created. Alan was able to “see” in ways others could not. His experience of the world was increasingly magnified and enlightened, even as his vision diminished.

Alan was a dog lover; an avid football fan (Go Dawgs! and Go Packers!); enjoyed cooking; and when he was sighted, he loved to travel and read. His family and friends knew him as fiercely independent, intelligent, outgoing, and funny. Alan regularly invested in mutually beneficial mentoring and peer relationships, where encouragement, support, respect, and prayer were fundamental pillars. That was really the heart of who Alan was, a man who faced significant challenges, and yet chose to be a blessing in all the ways he could, in all the places he could, as often as he could.

No formal services are planned. Following his Mother’s death in 2022, Alan and his brother shared thoughtful conversations about Alan’s wishes for his own end-of-life. He chose cremation, without a traditional burial plot. In honor of what Alan wanted, his brother will choose a significant place to scatter his ashes.
