John Lee Blackburn, Jr.

John Lee Blackburn, Jr., 85, of Moultrie, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 3, 2022, at New Elm Baptist Church with the Reverend Trey Eakins and the Reverend Gary Holton officiating.  Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Doerun, Georgia. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at New Elm Baptist Church.

Casketbearers will be Rocky Herndon, Jimmy Walker, Calvin Trammell, Greg Causey, Don Horne, and Chris Summerlin.

Born May 2, 1936, in Colquitt County Georgia, he was the son of the late John Lee Blackburn, Sr. and Dovie Giles Blackburn.   Mr. John retired from Colquitt EMC as a lineman with 41 years of service.   He was a hardworking, loving, and caring man who cherished his family dearly.  Mr. John enjoyed working on his farm and with his cows, and always had a smile on his face.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin “Buddy” Blackburn; sister, Grace B. Weldon.

Survivors include his wife of 65 plus years, Betty Louise Matthews Blackburn of Moultrie; children, Jackie L. James and son-in-law Wes of Moultrie, John Wayne Blackburn of Moultrie; sisters, Geneva Walker Perkins and brother-in-law Robert of Moultrie, Carolyn Trammell of Brookville, FL; grandchildren, Shannon Lee Curles, Jessie Christopher Cox, Takayla May; four great-grandchildren and other family members.
