MOULTRIE, GA – Jimmie W. Demott, Sr., 85, of Moultrie, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. A private family service will be held at a later date. Born August 29, 1936, in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late Roscoe G. Demott and Cobbie Aileen Melton Demott. Mr. Demott was the owner of Demott Tractor for many years before selling the business in June of 1986. He was involved in the farming community nearly all his life and was very influential in many of the agricultural advances in this area. Mr. Demott had a major role in the establishment of the Sunbelt Expo being held in Moultrie each year. He cared about his customers and friends and always strived to be a help to them. Mr. Demott was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed dirt track racing. He and his family owned a dirt track car for 20 years amassing numerous victories on the track. Mr. Demott enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being outdoors in general. He had many joys in life, but his greatest joy was always his family whom he loved dearly. He taught his sons the value of hard work and honesty in both word and deed. Mr. Demott was a Veteran having served in the United States Army and was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jimmie W. Demott, Jr. and wife Anna and several siblings. Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Ann Davis Demott of Moultrie; his sons, Jeff Demott and Tony Demott, both of Moultrie; his grandson, Chris Zeigler and wife Monica; great grandchildren, Justice Zeigler, Finley Zeigler, Emily Zeigler, Anthony Flowers and Russ Flowers and wife Crystal and family; his dear friends, John Minix and wife Becky and Jon McGee and wife Ruby; along with a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
