Jett Elizabeth Croy

November 13, 1917 — February 11, 2022

Jett Elizabeth Spangler Croy departed this life on February 11, 2022.  She was born on November 14, 1917 in Jonesville, Lee County, Virginia the 7th child of George Washington and Martha Elizabeth Givens Spangler.

The funeral will be held at Province Funeral Home in Jonesville, VA Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Brother Terry Richard of Knoxville, TN will officiate.  Graveside services will follow at Spangler-Minor Cemetery where she will rest beside her husband, waiting the Second Coming. 

Pallbearers will be family and friends.  In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Croy requested that donations be made to the Spangler-Minor Cemetery, c/o Ted Leedy, 484 Lizzie Minor Road, Jonesville, VA 24263.

Mrs. Croy graduated from Jonesville High School in 1936 and worked in a defense plant during World War II.  To fulfill her lifetime dream, she taught school in Lee County, VA, for one year after the war on a special teaching permit due to a shortage of teachers.  She was attending Radford College until her father died and she then dedicated herself to care for her mother until her death.  Mrs. Croy worked for USDA, Farmers Home Administration in Jonesville and Ashville, VA and in Tifton and Moultrie, GA where she retired after 25 years of service.

Mrs. Croy was an active charter member of Landmark Baptist Church in Moultrie until its demise in 2015.  She then joined Northside Baptist Church in Vienna, GA.  She and her late husband, Alford Croy, were lifetime members of the Lee County, VA Historical and Genealogical Society, and were active as distance permitted.  She was married to Mr. Croy from December 3, 1965, until his death on November 29. 2003.

In her later years, Mrs. Croy’s desire was to be a Christian witness and example to the non-emergency transportation drivers at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, and to her home health workers.  She wanted to be sure all those involved in her live and care had a relationship with the Lord.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Croy was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Marion, Walter, Wesley and Mac Spangler; two sisters Mary Spangler Weston and Ruth Spangler High; stepson James Croy as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Croy is survived by a stepdaughter Donna Croy Sims; stepdaughter-in-law Mary Croy; five grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; four nieces and three nephews plus numerous nieces and nephews to the sixth generation.
