Harvey "Chip" Preston Stapleton III

October 12, 1956 — April 2, 2021

Harvey Preston “Chip” Stapleton III, 64, of Moultrie, died Friday, April 2, 2021 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 5, 2021 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Grantham officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. His Edward Jones work family will serve as honorary pallbearers. Born October 12, 1956, in Macon, Ga., he was the son of the late Harvey Preston Stapleton, Jr. and Peggy Joyce Millirons Stapleton. Mr. Stapleton was a 1975 graduate of Southwest High School in Macon and received his B.B.A. in accounting from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. He was a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones Investments for thirty-five years, opening the first office in Moultrie in 1986. He was also Regional Leader for sixteen years, and a general partner for 13 years. Mr. Stapleton was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Cornerstone Sunday School Class, volunteered at the Soup Kitchen, and has served on various church committees. He served on the board of the Moultrie Y.M.C.A, was a former member of the United Way Board of Directors and was a past board member of the Moultrie Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce. In his family’s eyes, Chip was as perfect as they come. He was kind, generous, selfless, and humble. Funny and good-natured, he was a sports enthusiast, especially when it came to the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs. He was also an Andy Griffith fan and an American history buff. Survivors include his wife of thirty-five years, Mary Brinson Dukes Stapleton of Moultrie; two daughters, Leah Jane Stapleton and Lindsey Brooke Stapleton, both of Jacksonville, Fl.; one sister, LeAnn Stapleton Roland and husband J.C. of Miramar Beach, Fl.; one brother, Barry West Stapleton and wife Amy of Forsyth, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 409 First St., S.E., Moultrie, Ga. 31768 or Moultrie Y.M.C.A., 601 26th Ave., S.E., Moultrie, Ga. 31768.
