Harry Spires

July 30, 1941 — July 12, 2022

Harry Spires, 80, of Moultrie, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, July 15, 2022, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Born July 30, 1941, in Moultrie, Georgia, he was the son of the late Oscar Spires and Nina Mae Kimbrell Spires.   Harry retired from Windsor Insurance as an Insurance Marketing Representative and was of the Methodist faith.   Harry was an avid golf player, Florida Gators fan, and Little League baseball coach.  He, along with four of his brothers, coached Little League baseball for over 20 years. He loved the sport and enjoyed working with kids to build relationships as a role model even more.  He was inducted into the 2009 Colquitt County sports Hall of Fame with his brother Larry Spires for their dedication to the children a Colquitt County.  He also loved the game of golf. He spent as much spare time as he could on the golf course. He developed many friendships there, and even turned part of his property into a driving range and one hole putting green with sand traps.  His allegiance to the Florida gators was another sport he was passionate about. He had season tickets for over 30 years. He made many friends for life at those games. He instilled a love for it in his own kids and over the years took many other children, former Little League players, friends, and family to the games with him as well. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jimmy Spires, Bobby Gene Spires, Oscar Spires, Jr., Larry Spires, Ollie Spires, Wanda Faye Lott, and Irma Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Madis May Spires of Moultrie; children, Eric Jason Spires of Savannah, Leslie Shannon McAlpin and husband Chris of Moultrie; sister, Lillie Mae Hartsfield of Sylvester; several extended family members and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Tribute Program PO Box 1000 dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
