Obituary

Moultrie, Georgia – Geraldine Gay Waid, 95, of Moultrie, Georgia, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Colquitt Regional Senior Care and Rehabilitation.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Her son, Reverend Peter Waid will officiate. Interment will be at Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Born December 11, 1930, in Lucama, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late James Richard Gay and the late Bessie Mae Batten Gay.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Herbert Lee Waid; daughter-in-law, Anne Coad Waid; son-in-law, Daniel McVety; three sisters, Cula Mae Gay Watson, Hazel Gay Sasser and Frances Gay Vernosky; and one brother, Cecil Gay.

She married Herbert Lee Waid on July 23, 1954, in Nashville, Tennessee. He spent his life as a Minister in the Free Will Baptist church, and she faithfully served beside him as a minister’s wife, providing loving support.

His ministry took them from Tennessee to North Carolina to Japan and Georgia, where he served churches in Brookfield, Valdosta, Moultrie and Albany.

Survivors include her children, Nancy Thiessen (husband, Royce), Peter Waid, Darlene McVety, Penelope Wilkinson (husband, Kevin) and Amy Dykxhoorn (husband, Jacob); fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

The family wishes to thank the Hospice staff, her caregivers at the Colquitt Regional Senior Care and Rehabilitation facility and to our friend Dorothy Hardin who faithfully cared for our mother this past year.
