MOULTRIE, GA – Gayla Dean King Cobb, 73, of Moultrie is now reunited with her loved ones in heaven. She passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, October 12, 2023, having been surrounded by her family and caregivers.
A private family graveside entombment service will be held Monday, October 16, 2023, at Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens with Reverend Julian Griner officiating.
Born July 8, 1950, in Moultrie, GA, Gayla was the daughter of the late James Henry King and Verna Dean Dasher King. Gayla embodied the essence of a true southern lady. With a dignified presence that commanded respect, she carried herself with an air of grace and class. Her servant’s heart was at the core of her being, and she tirelessly dedicated herself to serving others with unwavering compassion. She and her husband Bobby were the owners and operators of Cobb Funeral Chapel, Cobb Monument Company, and Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens, where Gayla was known for her masterful skills in the art of restoration. Even amid a busy schedule, Gayla remained spunky and full of life. Her commitment to serving her community and those in need is a testament to her devotion, making her a shining example of southern hospitality and warmth. She loved her family and delighted in seeing them grow and succeed. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and in the later years enjoyed attending Funston Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Bobby Lavelle Cobb. They had been married 52 years when Bobby passed away in 2020. Each day she longed to be reunited with him and her other loved ones who have gone on before. Bobby’s parents, Ellen Gregory Cobb and Wilson Dewey Cobb and his brother Dewey Cobb also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter Ellen Cobb-Robinson and husband Jamie of Moultrie; twin grandchildren, Emily Cobb Robinson and Ethan Cobb Robinson, to whom she was a proud Meme; siblings, Robin King of Moultrie, Jimmy King and wife Jackie of Doerun, Lynn Clark and husband Glen of Moultrie; nieces and nephews, Amy and Joey Tatum with daughter Lauren, Julie Ann and Rev. Stuart Bundy with children Anna Grace, Lydia, and Brady, Katie and Jason Clark with son Owen, Elise and Andrew Clark with daughter Cora; loyally devoted companion and friend, Beverly Peterson and husband Freddie; sister-in law, Linda Cobb Hiers; family by love, Colby Reneker and wife Billie with baby Colby, Melissa Hurst and husband Thomas, Wes Davis, and Cobb Funeral Chapel employees, both past and present; and a number of extended family members and outstanding caregivers.
