Dr. Amanda Evelyn Hayden Swilley, 75, of Moultrie, died Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

          A memorial service is planned for a later date.

          Born July 19, 1944 in Moultrie, she was the daughter of the late Bert O. Hayden and Nellie Bowers Hayden.  Dr. Swilley retired in 2003 from teaching with 30 years of service where she taught at different schools and was an inspiration to many children.   She taught 1st grade at Sunset Elementary School for 12 years, 1st and 2nd grade at Westside Elementary in Coffee County for 9 years, and 9 years at Brewton Parker College.  Dr. Swilley was very active in several organizations including Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, various Educational Organizations, past Vice President of the Pilot Club of Douglas GA.  She enjoyed working with the Cancer Relay for Life and the Heart Campaign Lock-Up in Douglas GA.  During her teaching career, she served as 1 of 15 teachers from throughout the State of Georgia in leadership meetings with the State School Superintendent and presented at the State Leadership Conference.  Dr. Swilley was a former member of the Moultrie Chamber of Commerce, Director of Adel Chamber of Commerce and the Chairperson of the Leadership Committee.  She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Moultrie.

          Survivors include her sisters, Sherrie Brown and husband Freddie of Jasper, AL, Gail Suber of Moultrie; beloved pet, Pepper; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
