Donald Lee Gay, born on July 25, 1946, in Moultrie, Georgia, peacefully passed away on October 4, 2024, in Norman Park, Georgia. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories that will be held dear by all who knew him.
Donald proudly served his country as an Army Veteran, a testament to his nation. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a truck driver for Weeks Auction, where he was known for his hardworking nature and reliability.
Outside of his professional life, Donald found joy in fishing, a passion that showcased his appreciation for nature and the tranquility it brought him. Those moments spent by the water reflected his gentle spirit and love for the simple pleasures in life.
He is survived by his devoted son, Christopher Dean Gay and wife Carol, and his loving daughter, Donna Merriam and husband David. Donald cherished his role as a grandfather to Ryan Gay, Nick Gay, Dalton Murphy and wife Daley, Hunter Murphy, Madelyn Merriam, and Olivia Merriam. Additionally, he took great pride in being a great-grandfather to Maisyn Murphy, McLeod Murphy, and Madelyn Gay.
His family also includes his sister, Janice Allegood and husband Jerry, along with a niece, Michele Allegood, and a nephew, Bo Langston and wife Kay. They will carry forward the warmth and kindness that Donald embodied throughout his life.
Donald was preceded in death by his father, Elbert Lee Gay; mother, Beatrice Jackson Gay; brothers, Charles Gay and Mike Gay; sister, Linda Langston; and his beloved grandson, Michael Smith. Each of these individuals was a significant part of his life and will be remembered fondly.
As we celebrate the life of Donald Lee Gay, we honor his contributions to his family, community, and country. His loving spirit will remain in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
