Clifford Hammond “Sonny” Bell

Clifford Hammond “Sonny“ Bell, 78, of Leesburg, Florida went home to be with the Lord on October 10, 2023.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on October 20, at Mt. Sinai Church Cemetery in Doerun, GA with Dr. David Benton officiating. All are welcome to attend.

 The family will receive friends after the service.

Mr. Bell was born in Moultrie, GA, the son of Clifford Hammond and Mabel Wilson Bell. He attended Doerun schools, ABAC, and graduated from Georgia Southern with a degree in Parks and Recreation. He served as athletic director for the YMCA in Albany, GA; and became Director of Parks and Recreation for Waynesboro and Burke County, GA before moving to Leesburg, FL in 1973 and assuming the position of Director of Parks and Recreation for the city until his retirement in 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia “Patsy” Bell; his three children: Kristi Bell-Boliek and her children,  Zachary and Kassidy (Drew Gelb); Brent Bell and his children Laynee, Kielee, and Maicee; and Clay Bell (Jennifer Pate Bell) and their children Logan, Cole, and Dylan. Special family friends Kim Ford and Regina Rossano. Also, his sister, Ginger Bell Phillips of Doerun and her children,  Brian Phillips; Allison Braswell (Heath) and children; and Lori Gregory (Timothy) and their children; along with numerous cousins and lifelong friends from both Florida and Georgia.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Moffitt Cancer Center, 12902 USF Magnolia Drive, Tampa, Florida 33612
