Charles "Frank" Franklin Waters

October 24, 1926 — June 21, 2021

Charles Franklin “Frank” Waters, Sr., 94, of Hartsfield, passed away Monday, June 21, 2021 at The Golden Apple.

          A graveside service, with military honors, will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Hartsfield Cemetery with the Reverend Ron Shiver officiating. 

          The family will receive friends after the service on Thursday at the graveside.

          Born October 24, 1926, in Colquitt County, Georgia, he was the son of the late George Washington Waters and Lucy Pitts Waters.  Mr. Waters retired from United States Army as a Staff Sergeant.  He loved his family and enjoyed being outdoors and fishing.  Mr. Waters donated some of his land to establish the Hartsfield Cemetery and for 29 years he took great pride in maintaining the appearance of the grounds.  During his time in the Army, he served in World War II, Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War.  He was a gunner on Pork Chop Hill and was offered a Purple Heart, but he declined it because his fellow platoon members was not going to receive one.   In Vietnam, he was rewarded the Air Assault Medal for 38 combat air assault missions from a helicopter.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Faye Crosby Waters; eleven brothers and sisters.

          Survivors include his children, Shelly Waters Mercer of Moultrie, Robin Bush and husband Smiley of Blakley, Charles “Chuck” Waters and wife Sheila of Hartsfield; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

          Memorial contributions may be made to the Golden Apple in Moultrie and or Colquitt Regional Hospice, PO Box 3548, Moultrie, GA. 31776.
