Born October 17, 1933, in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late Emmett Ruis and Wilma Wilkes Ruis and stepson of the late Virginia Henry Ruis. Mr. Ruis was a master mechanic who could repair anything. After retiring, people would still call him to come repair tractors or cars because of his skills. Mr. Ruis was a veteran, having honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a very humble and godly man who put others before himself. His commitment to others was displayed in all the ways he served as a volunteer fireman, PTA President, Broxton Campground Committee Chairman, Funston City Council Member, Funston water system administrator and Deacon of Riverside Holiness Church. Mr. Ruis never sought attention for anything he did and wanted any glory to go to his Lord for giving him the opportunity to serve. He was a man of few words but spoke with wisdom when he did speak. Mr. Ruis cherished his family above all earthly things and loved them dearly. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents and stepmother, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Sue Ruis; grandson, Wesley Herrington; and sister, Betty Ann Pittman.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Marie Varnadoe Ruis; daughter, Kim Herrington and husband Mark; son, Kelvin Ruis and wife Sonja; granddaughter, Alexis Ruis Glass and husband Joshua; great-grandchild, Jeremiah Glass; siblings, Wendell Ruis and wife Lois, Doris Weldon, Gary Ruis and wife Shirley, Ferrell Ruis, Marvin Ruis and wife Cheryl, Dewayne Ruis and wife Jean Carol, Delayne Kirksey and husband Stan, Roger Ruis and wife Sherry, and Judy Stone and husband Mark; along with numerous extended family members and friends.
