Betty Louise Mathews Blackburn

MOULTRIE, GA – Betty L. Mathews Blackburn, 86, of Moultrie, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 25, 2022, at New Elm Baptist Church with the Reverend Trey Eakin officiating. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Moultrie, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at New Elm Baptist Church. Casketbearers will be Greg Causey, David Mathews, Don Horne, Chris Summerlin, Jimmy Walker, and Calvin Trammell. Born April 9, 1936, in Irwin County, she was the daughter of the late Jet Mathews and Mamie Bell Whittington Mathews. She loved her family dearly. Mrs. Mathews was a jokester at heart who enjoyed a good laugh. She also enjoyed singing and working on her farm. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Lee Blackburn, Jr. and siblings, Maude M. Bentley, Marion Mathews, Jean Mathews, Bill Mathews, Floyd Mathews, Roy Mathews and Fred Mathews Survivors include her daughter, Jackie L. James and son-in-law Wes of Moultrie; son, John Wayne Blackburn of Moultrie; grandchildren, Shannon Lee Curles, Jessie Christopher Cox, Takayla May; great grandchildren, Conner, Braxton, Keylee, and Bryce.
