Betty Margaret Rhodes Sledge

Betty Margaret Rhodes Sledge, 88, of Moultrie, died Monday, March 16, 2020 at her home.

          Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic a private graveside service will be held Friday, March 20, 2020 at Hopewell Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Voyles, Rev. Josh Purvis and the Rev. Julian Griner officiating.   

          Born February 25, 1932 in Coolidge GA, she was the daughter of the late Henry Arklas Rhodes and Mary Idella Poston Rhodes.  Mrs. Sledge retired in 1995 from Colquitt Regional Medical Center as a registered nurse and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.   Her family remembers how she traveled the United States camping and was an avid rock collector.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Luther Dowling Hortman and second husband, Joel Washington Sledge; daughter, Tammy Beth Asbell Pisciotta; sisters, Alice Faye Bergeron and Mary Frances Rhodes; brother, Billy Rhodes.

          Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Hortman Blackburn of Moultrie; son, Wendy Clayton Asbell of Moultrie; brother, Henry Derrill Rhodes of Moultrie; grandchildren, Rebecca Blackburn, Schmidt Richard Blackburn, Jr., Timothy Lee Henry, Brittany Henry Greene, John Steven Powell, Steven Sidel; ten great-grandchildren and other family members.
