Bettie Fisher Chambers

March 17, 1923 — December 28, 2020

Bettie Ruth Fisher Chambers, 97, of Funston died Monday, December 28, 2020, at her home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kirk Beckham and Dr. Vance Mathis officiating.  Interment will follow in Funston Cemetery.   The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Cobb Funeral Chapel.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are recommended.

Casketbearers will be her grandsons, Scott Chambers, Zachary Chambers, Andrew Chambers, Sam Chambers, Brad Blanton, Jeff Blanton and Brandon Gates.  Honorary casketbearers will be Mayor Ferrell Ruis, City of Funston Councilmen and the Bank of America co-workers.

Born March 17, 1923, in Moultrie, she was the daughter of the late Vaughn B. Fisher, Sr. and Maude Barnwell Fisher.  Mrs. Chambers retired from Bank of America after 23 years of service and served the citizens of Funston as a part-time city clerk for 25 years.  She was a member of Funston United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Bettie was a loyal partner to her husband, Mayor Dick Chambers and was a well-respected lady who will be truly missed by many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sidney “Dick” Chambers, Sr.; daughter, Sue Blanton; brothers, John B. Fisher, Vaughn B. “Bud” Fisher; sisters, Janiece Bass, Carolyn Fisher, Mildred Fisher, Mary Hornsby.

Survivors include her son, Sid Chambers and wife Terry of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Scott Chambers and wife Gina of Tifton, Brooke Gates of Columbus, GA, Brad Blanton and wife Lia of Wellington, FL, Ben Blanton and wife Samantha of Powell, OH, Jeff Blanton and wife Ana of Millington, TN, Zachary Chambers and wife Amanda of Charlotte, NC, Andrew Chambers and wife Brooke of Philadelphia, PA; great-grandchildren, Caroline VanArsdale and husband Clay, Sam Chambers, Anna Catherine Gates, Brandon Gates, Emily Blanton, Victoria Blanton, Bradley Blanton, Lincoln Blanton and Blair Blanton; step-great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Salter and Emily Salter; Lorena Barhite, sister-in-law; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Funston United Methodist Church, Funston, GA. 31753, and or Epworth By The Sea, St. Simons, GA 31522.
