Coolidge, Georgia – Bessie Mae Barry, 99, of Coolidge, Georgia, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at her residence.

Graveside Rites will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Murphy Cemetery with the Reverend Julian Griner officiating.

Born May 13, 1927, in Colquitt County, Georgia, she was a daughter of John Mack Chance and Mary Myrtle Sloan Chance, of blessed memory.

In addition to the parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Elvin Barry; daughters, Margie Gail Barry and Judy Elaine Barry Davis; grandson, Barry Keith Davis; sisters, Alberta Irene Chance Elrod and Annie Laura Chance Eubanks Stripling; brother, Howard Franklin Chance, Sr.; and a special niece, Annette Elrod Tillman.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Steve Sorrells, Andy Sorrells and wife, Lori, Amy Davis Ramsey and husband, Mike; great-grandchildren, Hayden Sorrells, Brandon Davis, Ashlyn Davis and Trinity Ramsey; granddaughter-in-law, Kimberly Davis; special niece, Peggy Davis; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.

For many years, she faithfully served as the Cafeteria Manager at Sunnyland Foods in Thomasville, Georgia, where she took great pride in her work and enjoyed the friendships she formed with those she served and worked alongside. Her warm and caring nature was evident in all that she did.

She was also a devoted homemaker who found great joy in caring for her home and family. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and crocheting, creating many beautiful pieces with her own hands. She especially loved making quilts and crocheted angels, each one reflecting her patience, creativity, and love for others.

Above all else, her greatest joy was her family. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved, whether gathered for a special occasion or simply enjoying the everyday moments that became cherished memories. Her love for her family was steadfast, and the kindness, devotion, and care she showed throughout her life will remain a lasting legacy for all who knew and loved her.

The family is requesting no flowers. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Colquitt Regional Hospice.
