Alice Herndon DeMott Sampson

Alice Herndon DeMott Sampson, 91, of Moultrie, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Westview Cemetery in Moultrie, Georgia, with Reverend Trey Eakins officiating.  Honorary casketbearers will include her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Born October 5, 1932, in Moultrie, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late John Austen Herndon and Willie Ruth Whitfield Herndon.  Mrs. Alice was a distinguished southern lady who loved her family dearly and relished every moment of caring for them.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking all the while.  She was a longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Hartsfield, Georgia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ervin Elijah DeMott and her second husband, Joey S. Sampson; son, Byron Scott DeMott; daughters, Dolly Rose DeMott, Pattie Alana DeMott; and sister, Wilna Herndon DeMott Rodgers. 

Survivors include her son Marc DeMott and wife Sharon of Moultrie; daughter, Gina DeMott Renner of Powder Springs, Georgia; grandchildren, John Austen DeMott and wife Jane, Matthew Ervin DeMott, Taylor Alice Rains and husband Austin, Jackson Scott Renner and fiancé Ariana Gil; great-grandchildren, Marc Calvin DeMott, Charles Henry DeMott, Hagen Thomas Rains; sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Cain, Glenda DuPree; brothers-in-law, Larry DeMott, Sr., Roddy DeMott; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Memorial contributions made be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 245 Oak Grove Church Road, Hartsfield, Georgia 31756.
